Windows RSS Readers
For those unfamiliar with RSS (aka, Really Simple Syndication, Rich Site Summary, RDF Site Summary), it is essentially a technology that lets you know when content is added to your favorite news, information and blog sites.

Suggested Readers for Windows
The most robust RSS reader for Windows that I've come across is called FeedDemon. It's feature-packed, but requires a $29.95 payment after the trial period.
I personally use a free reader called SharpReader. It's much more basic than FeedDemon, but has everything you really need.
Both of these support the many versions of RSS, as well as the competing standard, Atom.

Mac OS X RSS Reader
